Automatic time capture in Oblix records what you actually work on through a desktop Companion app, then uses a deterministic matching engine backed by AI to attribute each block of activity to the right client and job. The Friday-afternoon timesheet problem
You did the work. You just cannot remember the half-hour split between the Acme VAT return, the call about their payroll and the thirty minutes lost to email. So on Friday you reconstruct the week from memory, round to the nearest half-hour, and quietly write off the bits you cannot account for. Recovery slips, the partner cannot see where the time really went, and nobody enjoys the exercise. Time you do not capture is time you cannot bill or learn from.
What changes
Your time is captured as you work, not remembered after the fact. Each day Oblix presents a timesheet that is already filled in — entries attributed to clients and jobs, with a billable and non-billable split and a confidence figure next to each one. You scan it, fix anything that landed on the wrong job, confirm, and you are done. Fewer write-offs because nothing is forgotten, and a partner can finally see real recovery per client and per job rather than a tidy estimate.

The Companion captures what you work on
A native Windows desktop app (a macOS build also exists) runs in the system tray and samples the foreground window every few seconds — application, window title, web page and file path where available — plus periodic screenshots that are redacted on your machine before upload.
Idle and personal time are excluded
When the machine is idle past the threshold, that stretch is recorded as idle and never attributed or billed, and screenshots are skipped. Personal-life activity and your own firm's internal admin are deliberately kept out of chargeable time.
AI attributes each block to a client and job
A classification run groups your activity and matches it to clients and jobs, mostly by deterministic alias and identifier matching. For genuinely ambiguous blocks an AI arbiter (Google Gemini) weighs the top candidates and can abstain rather than guess.
Confidence decides how hard it pushes
High-confidence matches are attributed silently, medium-confidence detections nudge you to confirm, and anything too uncertain is left unattributed for you to assign. You are never billing on a guess the system was not sure about.
You review and confirm on a daily timesheet
Your timesheet page shows the day's draft entries with their confidence, lets you change the client, job or duration, add a manual entry, and confirm — with daily, billable and weekly totals so the picture is complete before you sign off.
You confirm it — the system never bills behind your back
Every entry Oblix generates is a draft until you confirm it. There is no autonomous billing: you can edit the client, the job and the duration, add anything the capture missed, and reject what does not belong. Idle time is never charged, and firm-internal and personal activity are split out before anything reaches your timesheet. Managers and partners get a consolidated view for oversight, but the day-to-day confirmation stays with the person who did the work.

Do I still have to fill in a timesheet?
No — you review one rather than write one. Oblix presents each day's entries already attributed to clients and jobs with a billable split, and your job is to check them, correct anything on the wrong job, add anything that was missed, and confirm. It typically takes a few minutes a day instead of an hour reconstructing the week on Friday.
How does Oblix know which client and job I was working on?
It matches your captured activity to clients and jobs mainly through deterministic alias and identifier matching — names, references and file paths that point to a specific client or job. For genuinely ambiguous blocks an AI arbiter weighs the most likely candidates and can decline to guess, in which case the entry is left for you to assign. Every entry remains a draft until you confirm it.
Will it bill time automatically without me checking it?
No. Every entry Oblix generates is a draft on your daily timesheet that you must confirm, and you can change the client, job or duration or reject it entirely first. High-confidence matches are filled in for you and lower-confidence ones are flagged or left unattributed, but nothing becomes confirmed chargeable time until you say so.
What about my breaks and personal activity — does that get captured as billable?
No. When your machine is idle past the threshold, that time is recorded as idle and never attributed or billed, and screenshots are skipped during idle periods. Personal-life activity and your own firm's internal admin are deliberately excluded from chargeable time, so your billable figure reflects real client work.
